رمان کلیدر (Kelidar)

Kelidar, a famous work by Mahmoud Dowlatabadi, is among the world's longest novels such as In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust, JOSEPH AND HIS BROTHERS by Thomas Mann, and THE HISTORY OF A YOUNG LADY by SAMUEL RICHARDSON, to name but a few. 

Kelidar, the monumental work of a contemporary Iranian novelist, was first published in 1984 by Tehran-based Farhang Moaser Publishers, in 2836 pages and 10 volumes in Persian. 

It features the hostility and turbulence encountered by a Kurdish family following the World War II. It praises the valor, perseverance and toughness found in the lives of nomadic tribes.

The story unfolds in the Iranian province of Khorasan which is home to Kelidar, a mountain located between Sabzevar, Nishapur and Quchan. The descriptions of villages are to a large extent based on reality.

The book provides the reader with a genuine account of nomadic lifestyle. Braveness, hospitality, kindness, and their abhorrence toward a sedentary way of life.

Mahmoud Dowlatabadi spent over 15 years to write Kelidar. The tireless writer was born in 1940 in the village of Dowlatabab, not too far from the regions where the characters of his novel once lived.
